Dear Readers,

I love fresh starts— school years, birthdays, and especially new years.
What goals do I have? What new habits do I hope to have at the end of
this year? The possibilities are only as limited as I make them.

Along with the unprecedented events of 2020, industry members were
busier than they have been for quite some time. As the dust clears and
we look ahead, what goals do you want to attain? What did you have to
put aside last year that you hope to bring back into focus in 2021?

In addition to professional goals, the industry will see regulatory
changes. Several states elected new insurance regulators. The incoming
Biden administration is expected to nominate a new director to head
the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. What will these new
regulators choose to focus on?

As you read in our cover story, Louisiana’s new brick-and-mortar law
is now in effect. Will any other states choose to follow suit? How many
new states will adopt remote online notarization laws in the coming
year? What new cyber threats will the industry need to contend with?
We at The Legal Description are excited to walk with you through this
new year. If there is anything you’d like to see from us in the coming
months, please reach out.

Until next time, stay legal.
