Survey Methodology

The 2007 Independent Title Agent Survey is the result of an electronic survey soliciting voluntary participation from independent title agents throughout the United States.  No other pre-qualifications such as years of experience or agency revenue numbers were used to qualify the participants.

Subscribers to select industry publications, The Title Report, The Legal Description and RESPAnews.com, were contacted via e-mail communications, Web advertisements and publication inserts to participate in this survey.  The Title Report's subscriber base represents 26 U.S. states, with 40% of the circulation for e-news briefings and 58% of the print subscriber and readership base representing independent title agents.  The Legal Description's subscriber base also represents 26 U.S. states, with 26% of the print subscriber and readership base representing independent title agents.  RESPAnews.com's subscriber base represents all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, with 21% of the circulation for e-news briefings and 39% of the print subscriber base representing independent title agents.  Additionally, Land Title Association state members were solicited for participation through Web advertisments and survey flyers.

This survey is limited by the voluntary nature of the survey design.  Each survey respondent is restricted by a unique identifier which permits only one completion of the survey for each volume.  The survey for both volumes of the study will be conducted in June 2007.

 

The survey and data collection is conducted through the use of an independent, national survey vendor.  Respondents are asked a total of 72 questions - 31 multiple choice questions/"check all that apply" and two open-ended questions.  Percentages for multiple choice questions that asked the respondent to “check all that apply” are derived by dividing the total number responses for each choice into the total number of respondents answering the question.

 

The confidence level goal is 95% with a maximum of a 5% margin of error.  Independent title agents are required to respond to all questions with the exception of optional contact information for use in the survey drawing giveaway.
