Name: Joyce Weiland
Age: 34
Title: COO
Organization: FIS SoftPro

Joyce Weiland, chief operating officer for FIS SoftPro, first entered the settlement services industry in 1994 as a sales consultant for SoftPro. She advanced quickly to become the director of sales and marketing and was promoted to her current position as COO in 1999.

Under Weiland’s leadership, SoftPro was ranked one of North Carolina’s 50 fastest growing technology companies for two years. She successfully transitioned SoftPro from a privately held corporation to a subsidiary of Fidelity National Financial in 2001.

Nominator Tim Conley also noted that she spearheaded the company’s integrations with RealEC, TransactionPoint, agentTrax, TitleWave, FastWeb, eFlight and Closing Collaboration Tools.

“Joyce has overseen SoftPro’s impressive growth in becoming the title industry’s leading software with over 11,000 customer sites nationwide,” he said.

What about your job gives you the most satisfaction?

The interaction with our customers. We strive on a daily basis to make sure that our customers are getting the products and services that they need. Our customers tell us over and over again how much they love working with the employees at SoftPro and love using our products. It's a great feeling to know that our software and our service are making a difference.

What challenge really jazzes you?

I love the challenge of continually trying to make sure that we satisfy our customers' needs with product enhancements. Since we have such a large percentage of the title agents across the country, we have to be extremely diligent in the next steps we take with our products.

What is the best advice you could give?

Listen to your customers. They will tell you what the problems are if you are willing to listen. The other is "Keep it simple." Don't try to overanalyze problems or create more process than the problem warrants. Keep it Simple - Answer the phone, listen to your customer and resolve the issue.

Who has been a significant mentor in your life?

My parents taught me the basics of if you work hard and treat people with respect and fairly, the rest takes care of itself.

To what do you attribute your success?

The team of employees at SoftPro. We would not have been as successful without the specific people we have on our team.

If you could have lunch with any person living or historical, who would it be and why?

Jesus

What is something unique about you that not many people know about?

French was my first language.

What are you listening to right now on your Ipod/CD player/Radio?

U2 and Billy Joel

What do you do to relax?

Read, jet ski and water-ski, take my daughter to the park

What’s the most fulfilling thing you have been involved in within your community and why?

Habitat for Humanity - It's great team building experience that provides a great resource for the community.
