Name: Laura Hunt
Age: 28
Title: Paralegal
Organization: Professional Paralegal Services of CT, LLC

Laura Hunt began doing paralegal work for an attorney part-time while she was still going to college. Recently, she started her own paralegal services company, Professional Paralegal Services of CT LLC, in Danbury, Conn.

Nominator Debra Killian of Charter Oak Lending Group says for a young woman, Laura’s grasp of complicated real estate matters, her dedication to go above and beyond, and her work ethic are all extremely impressive.

“We always knew that when she was assigned a closing, there was nothing to worry about. It always got done,” Killian said. “She is innovative, driven and delivers exemplary customer service. Under pressure, she is calm, focused and able to remain pleasant and courteous to even the most difficult clients. If I owned a real estate closing service company, she would be the first person I would hire. Not only to provide services, but to train other paralegals on how that position really should be handled.”

Why did you become involved in the settlement services industry?

Originally, just because I needed a job. I stuck with it because I enjoy helping people and I enjoy the challenges it presents.

What about your job gives you the most satisfaction?

Being good at what I do.

What challenge really jazzes you?

Trying to hold a closing together because they fall apart all too often.

Being brave enough to start my own business doing something that isn't very common in my area.

My husband. He never held me back from succeeding, in school and at work, and I can't thank him enough.

To what do you attribute your success?

A good personality, hard work and the will to succeed.

Who is the most inspiring speaker you have ever heard at a conference?

I don't go to conferences, but I would have to say one of my college professors. Dr. Harold Schramm at Western Connecticut State University is a great speaker and is brilliant.

I would have to say George Washington just for the fact that he was the first President of the U.S.

I don't get the chance to read often, but I like Stephen King and Dean Koontz books. My favorite movie is "Gladiator."

Everything from Linkin Park and Pearl Jam to Andrea Bocelli.

Sit in front of the fire and do nothing.

What’s the most fulfilling thing you have been involved in within your community and why?

I would have to say working at the YMCA is fulfilling. Although it is a part-time job and I get paid a little, it makes me feel like I'm giving back to my community. I look forward to getting involved with volunteer work through the YMCA to help the elderly and the poor. I haven't done so yet, but I do plan to soon.
