Name: Tim Conley
Age: 38
Title: Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Organization: SoftPro Corporation

Tim Conley is the vice president of sales and marketing for SoftPro, the nations most widely used closing and title production system. Since joining SoftPro in 1997, he helped lead the company through nine straight years of record growth, a successful acquisition by Fidelity National Financial in 2001, and two years of being ranked as one of North Carolina’s 50 fastest growing technology companies.

Tim has personally sold over 1,500 customers on SoftPro’s Closing and Title Solutions and has been instrumental in building a customer base exceeding 11,000 customer sites. Through his efforts and leadership, Tim has helped SoftPro become the nation’s leader in closing and title software.

Meg Keever of SoftPro, who nominated Conley, said that he has a wealth of knowledge and is constantly learning. “He has a keen understanding of all of the various business facets of the Closing and Title industry — from title, to title production, to real estate and law, to the latest and greatest technologies. Tim is a visionary, and he thinks Big! He sees things on a forward, progressive basis and has an uncanny ability to predict future trends.”

Conley also currently sits on the American Land Title Association’s Member & Organization Committee, Vendor Task Force, and is a member of ALTA as well as various other state land title associations.

“Tim’s enthusiasm and excitement about the future of closing and title technology can be felt around the country,” Keever said. “Tim has probably one of the most recognized faces in the industry. And he has the natural ability of bringing people together to work towards a common goal. Tim’s motivation to reach beyond the walls of SoftPro is what really sets him apart, and he is instrumental in where the closing and title industry is headed.”

What was your first job in the settlement services industry?

SoftPro Sales Consultant

How did you get involved in title software?

Like everyone whose parents don’t own a title company, I fell into this industry by accident.

What challenge really jazzes you?

Working with a prospect who is skeptical about the value technology brings to their operations and the entire implementation and deployment process we take our customers through. Earning their trust, winning their business and executing on all of the promises and commitments we make in the sales cycle.

What is the best advice you could give?

The customer always comes first. It’s a pretty simple philosophy but it’s amazing how many organizations don’t practice it.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

Being able to help our company grow and add jobs. Every time we add an employee it makes me feel great. I want them to be proud of the company they work for and I feel personally responsible to make sure we bring in the revenue needed to cover their salary.

Who has been a significant mentor in your life and why?

My mother. She quit her job as a high school teacher at 48 years old with 4 children in college and went to medical school. At 63, she has been a practicing physician for the last 8 years.

To what do you attribute your success?

My focus on customer service and the ability to wear as many hats as it takes to get the job done.

Who is the most inspiring speaker you have ever heard at a conference?

Paul Fireman, CEO of Reebok, International. He was a sales representative with a high school degree who purchased an athletic shoe line and built a Fortune 500 Company on $60,000 he borrowed.

If you could have lunch with any person living or historical, who would it be and why?

Jesus. He never compromised his values and made the ultimate sacrifice for it.

What is something unique about you that not many people know about?

I spent my summers in high school working the paddock of a horse track, I’ve shoveled many a stall full of horse manure.

What is your favorite book or movie?

My favorite movie is Office Space. It’s everything you never want to see happen at your company.

What’s the most fulfilling thing you have been involved in within your community and why?

Coaching my son’s teams in baseball & basketball this year. He’s seven and it’s amazing how quickly they soak up the information and you see the results.
